AzaClear® is a unique combination of naturally derived ingredients, designed to address the visible effects of problem or aging skin.  Azelaic acid has long been known for its beneficial cosmetic effects on the skin.  Products that contain azelaic acid as their primary ingredient, however, have been found to be both helpful to skin, yet potentially irritating.  Other skin alternative ingredients such as retinoids, retinol and benzoyl peroxide suffer from the same potential for irritation.  The AzaClear® formula contains a high concentration of azelaic acid in our patented emollient base, reducing potential skin irritation.[1]

Complexing azelaic acid + niacinamide is another first.  We call our patented combination, SynergyE™. Synergy occurs when the addition of several ingredients results in an effect greater than expected with the individual ingredients separately. SynergyE™ is a patented emollient cosmetic base complexing and micronizing azelaic acid with niacinamide in combination with the moisturizing effects of glycerin and hyaluronic acid. AzaClear® is soothing to the skin and encourages hydration. AzaClear® is ultra micronized to reduce the size of azelaic acid particles to less than 20um. Ultra micronization increases the penetration of AzaClear® for enhanced and accelerated results.

AzaClear® is free of fragrance, masking fragrances, colorants, dyes, hydroquinone, and formalin releasing biocides. Please note that hydroquinone 2% was formerly approved for over the counter sales in the US until recently. Like the EU countries and Japan, it is now banned unless a company decides to attempt to obtain FDA approval as a safe over the counter drug. No company has yet attempted to obtain approval. We feel it’s about time hydroquinone is pulled from the market. Supported by peer reviewed medically published studies, azelaic acid is a proven viable alternative. AzaClear uses a patented combination of azelaic acid with enhancers such as niacinamide and additional safe organic inhibitors of excess skin blotchiness which we feel make the use of over the counter hydroquinone unnecessary. Our products also have no limitation as to time of use and remain skin safe whereas hydroquionone is less safe when used continuously for more than a few months.

Azelaic Acid

A naturally occurring organic substance, azelaic acid is a dicarboxylic acid found in grains. It is known for it’s anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Azelaic acid has recognized cosmetic benefits in both cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical products. AzaClear has reformulated azelaic acid into an elegant emollient cream to both improve results and reduce potential irritation.

Glycerin

Glycerin moisturizers and lubricates the skin, promoting skin softness and smoothness.  It is colorless and odorless and widely used in pharmaceutical products.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a water-soluble component of the vitamin B group.  It does not cause skin flushing like niacin.  Niacinamide is a coenzyme in a wide variety of cellular functions.  Vitamins such as niacinamide have been noted to be anti-inflammatory.

 Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid continuously moisturizes the skin. It binds up to 1000 times its weight in water and helps regulate skin hydration.

Green Ingredients

A product’s safety, efficacy and stability are a direct result of the ingredients chosen, how the ingredients interact and the quality of the manufacturing process.  AzaClear® contains quality ingredients and is produced in a FDA licensed facility located in California that also meets GMP (good manufacturing practices).  We adhere to the more stringent GMP practices as required for all pharmaceutical manufacturing. Note they are not required for production of cosmetic or cosmeceutical products.

Azaclear® does not contain fragrances, phalates or parabens.  Our company supports the environmental working group as well as the FDA in their fight toward greater regulation and transparency for ingredients in cosmetics and creams. We proudly source our raw ingredients either from US or EU suppliers only.  One of our founders, in addition to being a dermatologist, is also a specialist in environmental health .  Our ingredients were chosen to ensure patient safety. A list of our ingredients can be found here.

The SynergyE™ Difference

AzaClear® is the result of years of dermatologic research to improve the effects of both azelaic acid and niacinamide while creating a product that was hydrating. AzaClear® not only supports the skin’s hydration and barrier function, it is also non-comedogenic. Previous formulations containing azelaic acid have used either sd alcohol or propylene glycol to solubilize and dissolve azelaic acid into a cream or gel base, thus increasing the potential for skin irritation. AzaClear® utilizes a proprietary and patent-pending process to shrink the size of azelaic acid and niacinamide particles into micron sized droplets and then envelop these micronized particles with the hydrating effects of non-animal derived glycerin. We call the compound, SynergyE™. It improves and creates synergy between the well documented and favorable skin effects of both azelaic acid and niacinamide while preserving the skin’s epidermal barrier function.

The AzaClear® Eye Serum (patent-pending) expands the SynergyE™ family of products from Epikinetics Pharma LLC. Azelaic Acid, niacinamide and glycerin are complexed with cyclodextrin to improve the product penetration while reducing to an absolute minimum, the potential for irritation. This product is designed to use safely around the eye and benefit from the actions of azelaic acid in this very delicate area.

The production of cyclodextrins is relatively simple and involves treatment of ordinary starch with a set of enzymes. Cyclodextrins are able to form host-guest complexes with hydrophobic molecules given the unique nature imparted by their structure.[1]AzaClear® Eye Serum with cyclo-azelaic acid, forms a complex of azelaic acid, enveloped and protected by a circle of cyclodextrin. This allows for more azelaic acid to be dissolved in the water based eye serum while encouraging skin effects and hydration. Cyclodextrins have also been used to solubilize hydrophobic drugs in pharmaceutical applications, and crosslink to form polymers used for enhanced skin effects.[2] Alpha-, beta-, and gamma-cyclodextrin are all generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the FDA.[3]
